Chapter Eight

New Problems for

Adren and Her Family

As they entered Lothia’s city gates some weeks later, they noticed five sentries who saluted them.

Just then, Adren pointed, “Look, Daddy.”

“Did you see the new building above the city?” asked Tronil; he pointed to a structure with balconies on the second floor.

“I believe that that is our new hall,” Zyrthal declared approvingly.

“It is beautiful,” they all agreed.

“What do you think they have decided to do with the old hall?” asked Annia.

“I am not sure, dear,” answered Tadren.

Their conversation was cut short as Almion and the families of the girl-warriors approached to greet them.

“We are glad to know that you are all safely back home,” the elf leader announced. Obviously he had missed his children greatly.

“Hello, Father,” cried Franelee. She tossed the reins of her team to an elf Almion had summoned to care for the wagons.

“Welcome home, everyone,” Almion embraced his daughter.

The other girls ran to the arms of their families. Soon the travelers bid good-bye to each other and scattered to their own homes.

“Well, Tronil,” sighed Tadren. “I am thankful for your help. I had a great trip, and I did not have to worry because you were in charge.”

“Thank you, I think,” the captain smiled.

“Thank you, my friend.” Tadren clapped him on the back.

Holding hands with Zyrthal, Saphyr called “Bye, princess.”

“Good-bye, my friends. I hope this does not mean you will forget us?”

“Never,” they chorused.

Tronil took his wife’s hand, “Shall we go and see if we still have a home, my lady?”

“That sounds good, my husband,” she replied joyfully.

After that day, things became more settled for all of them. Moreover, the once beautiful city of Lothia had become even more beautiful than before. Amidst the return to normal, Jessikal’s parents invited Liotan and his parents to dine.

“Thank you for the invitation,” said Annia, as they greeted Jessikal’s parents, who invited them into their nice home.

“Hello there,” Tadren told Jessikal’s younger sisters, when he spotted them in the room.

“Hello,” they both responded together.

“Where is Liotan?” asked the eighteen-year-old girl.

“He is out back taking care of the horses. He will join us anytime now,” answered their father, Devaki.

“Can we go help him, Father?” asked the younger one. At seventeen years, she was a close copy of Jessikal.

“You will get dirty and we will have to wait for you to change. That will make supper cold,” answered their mother. “Please help me with the table instead.”

Jessikal came to greet her soon to be parents-in-law, and said, “We just wait for Liotan.” Her cheeks colored.

“I know I heard my name,” Liotan’s voice came through the door.

“Hello,” sang out Jessikal

“Hello, my lady,” he kissed her hands.

“Oh, there you are,” her mother greeted him. “Come, everyone sit at the table.”

They had a very good visit with Jessikal’s family at dinner.

Afterwards, Devaki addressed them, “It has been a long spring and even longer summer. We missed our daughter, so we decided to do something to keep her close to our hearts while she was gone. Please follow us, we will show you what we mean.
